Moncrieff Estate – a vast rural business including arable farming, forestry conservation, livestock production, conference and events facilities, renewable energy and residential properties.
We were excited to be involved with the landscape around the old milking house, which was converted into offices and a shooting lodge. Given the rural location, materials chosen were robust but installed with a feeling of quality.
Paving was used to create pedestrian journeys. Paviours were a riven‑finished limestone, jointed with sand and cement stock joints.
Similar stone was used to clad walls under the oak panelling – timber sourced on the estate. More of the limestone, but cut as stacker, was used to face gabion baskets, laid in linear code, adding more style to the organic feel.
A spring was used to transform a muddy ditch into a vibrant natural watercourse, creating a habitat for a host of wildlife. Huge lumps of stone, quarried on site, were used to shape the stream, creating still pool + waterfall. Verges either side of the stream were dressed with a budi-compliant wild flower turf, giving a vibrant and floral show while again attracting a host of insects.
An oak balance with extra fence and gates link parking to the main entrance. The high‑quality powder‑coated steel fencing forms a theme around the site – providing safety and security.
Vehicle access in tarmac and chip, with a feature (maple leaf formed) of steel edge and finished with red tarmac being a focal point at the centre of a turning circle.
Planting is natural in style with a mixture of herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees giving a year‑round show of interest, screening and structure.
