A cleverly completed barn conversion provides a tasteful country retreat in the heart of the South Downs National Park at the foot of the South Downs. The building is built out of local sandstone and oak and sits in a remote, rural location. The landscaping complements the natural materials of the property, nestling the building into its rural setting.
Riven limestone provides a timeless, rustic seating area, with more slender limestone pavers providing hints of varied textures. Retaining walls and step risers are clad with natural stone, mirroring the building.
The end result is classy and precise, with the feeling of robust, rugged longevity. The garden will survive as long as it’s rural surroundings. Being a country retreat, the garden caters for rest, relaxation, and entertaining. The 10 m x 5 m pool features a stone coloured liner giving a sparkling, natural glint to the water. Adjacent to the pool is a natural timber sauna – the ultimate wellness addition to any garden. The outdoor kitchen is formed of more oak and limestone, continuing the rural but luxury feel – housing a big green egg for charcoal cooking and a five-burner gas barbecue for convenience, as well as hot and cold water and a fitted outdoor fridge.
Planting is natural with a border of herbaceous plants and swathes of meadow, shrubs, and grasses add structure to the beds and dozens of native trees replace cleared areas. Subtle lighting guides you around the garden after dark, bringing this garden to life.
